Goal: Guess the secret prompt while the performer gives clues in whatever mode the AI assigns — acting, speaking, or something in between.
Note:
Mixed Signals is easiest to play if you’ve tried Crazy Clues or Act-IT!? before.
This game blends both into a fast, unpredictable challenge.
How to Play
- Select Difficulty (Optional)
Players can choose:
- Easy (simple objects & actions)
- Medium (characters, hobbies, multi-step actions)
- Hard (phrases, idioms, scenes)
Or let the AI pick “Random.”
- Easy (simple objects & actions)
- AI Gives the Secret Prompt
A single performer receives a private word or phrase, such as:
- “Penguin”
- “Building a snowman”
- “Dragon rider”
- “Burnt toast”
- “Lost treasure map”
- “Penguin”
- AI Assigns the Clue Mode
Each round, the AI gives one clue mode.
Performers must follow that mode exactly.
Core Modes:
- Act Only – Silent acting (Act-IT!?)
- Speak Only – Describe without saying any part of the word (Crazy Clues style)
- Act + Speak – Both allowed (still can’t say the answer)
- One-Word Clue – Say only one word, then you must act
- No Hands – Speak or act, but cannot use your hands
- Props Only – No speaking; only use items around you as clues
- Act Only – Silent acting (Act-IT!?)
- These modes can be expanded or customized via house rules, but the base game sticks to the six above.
- Perform the Clue
The performer immediately gives clues using the assigned mode.
No planning time unless the group allows it. - Guessing Phase
Everyone else guesses out loud.
First correct guess ends the round. - Scoring
- Performer: +1 point
- Correct Guesser: +1 point
Both score together as a pair.
- Performer: +1 point
- Timer Required
Each round has a 1-minute timer.
If time runs out and no one guesses it:
- No points
- Next player performs.
- No points
- Next Round
Rotate clockwise so each player gets a turn as the performer before repeating.
End of Game
Game ends when each player has acted twice.
(Example: 6 players → 12 total rounds.)
Winner is whoever has the most points.
For ties → tied players do one final sudden-death round.
Variants
Variant A — Lightning Mode
30-second timer.
No planning allowed, even in tricky modes.
Variant B — Double Trouble
Two performers receive the same prompt and must perform in sync under the same mode… first one to get someone to guess the word gets the point (correct guesser chooses which actor gets the point).
Variant C — Mode Lock
The performer chooses their preferred mode at the start of the round — but they must stick to that same mode all game.
(Everyone may choose different modes, or the group can vote on one mode for the game)
Variant D — Relaxed Mode
No timer, no points — just fun and guessing.
Clarifications
- Performers can gesture, move, crouch, jump, mime, etc.
- In Speak Only mode, they may not say any part of the target word. (if Pancake is the word, they may not say pan or cake)
- In Prop mode, they can touch or hold items but not speak.
- The group resolves disputes by simple majority vote (in ties the actor’s vote doesn’t count).
Mixed Signals
I’ve got a secret word and a weird way you have to describe it. Are you ready to perform?
